Energy Performance & Efficiency of Lifts for CO2 Reduction. In August 2008 the ISO Technical Committee (TC) 178 met in Washington to discuss the energy performance and efficiency of lifts. Specifically, the energy performance classification system developed in Germany by the German engineers association VDI was discussed, concerning specifically standby and travel energy usage. ELCA was present and reported that mostly of the Members were not in favour of applying the German energy performance classification as too specific to the national market to be accepted in other countries. The issue of energy efficiency is high on the European Agenda as in line with the European Union strategy to reduce CO2 emission improving energy efficiency in any sector. ELCA will continue to follow up those developments to make sure that the interest of small and medium enterprises that will be affected by any energy performance classification of lifts is made visible in those discussions, both at European and International level.
