ELCA, the European Lifts Components Association, founded in 1998 and based in Brussels, represents the lifts components manufacturers in Europe. The role of the association is to safeguard the interests of lifts components manufacturers and small lifts companies. The members of ELCA represent about 40% of the lifts components market in Europe.
ELCA is recognised as the "voice" of the European lifts component manufacturers by the European institutions and other related industry associations, having obtained very important results, among which:
The "liaison status" from CEN (European Standardisation Body), which allows for participation into the CEN working groups studying technical issues (such as the criteria to develop a risk assessment, the new standards for Machine Room-Less installations, home lifts, revision of the lift standards EN 81-1 and EN 81-2, etc)
Participation to the meetings of the European Commission Standing Committee in charge of the implementation of the Lifts Directive, and to the European Co-ordination of Notified Bodies for Lifts, aiming at harmonisation within Europe.
Involvement in the preparation of a "Guide for the interpretation of the Lift Directive" fostered by the European Commission.
Participation in the International Standardisation Organisation (ISO) technical committees dealing with safety and performance of lifts worldwide.
ELCA has close contacts with other European associations such as EBC (European Builders Confederation), EFESME and national component associations like ANICA in Italy and AECAE in Spain. ELCA is also in contact with ELA (European Lifts Association) and national lift associations, such as ANACAM in Italy, about matters of common interest to both component and lift manufacturers.
We have also started contacts with our American counterpart, NAEC (National Association of Elevator Contractors), which represents all components manufacturers and the small and medium companies of the US sector.
The founding members are well known components producers from 5 EU Countries, in particular: Bot Lifttechniek (NL), Centoducati (I), Eurolift (E), GMV (I), Kronenberg (D), IGV (I), Monteferro (I), Moris (I), Oildinamic (D), Selcom Aragon (E), Semag (I), Sodimas (F), Wittur (D).
ELCA was established as an European Economic Interest Grouping based on the Belgian Law of 12 June 1989 and the EC Council Regulation No. 2137/85 of 25 June 1985. Its central office is situated in Brussels.
